TEACHING: THE MOST UNDERRATED PROFESSION

Have you ever been asked what you want to be when you grow up? I’m pretty sure 95% of the responses were in favor of other professions outside teaching. Parents would often brag about their children who are lawyers, doctors, journalists, engineers, even actors and musicians.

How often do you hear a parent brag about his/her child who is a teacher? Even
school owners treat their students and parents better than they treat their teachers. Ever heard the saying “The customer is always right”? Well, there is no truer truism in any profession like the teaching profession. Teaching is often considered one of the most underrated professions in today’s society. Ever wondered why? Despite the crucial role that teachers play in shaping the minds of future generations, they are often undervalued and underappreciated. This lack of recognition for teachers is not only unfair to those who dedicate their lives to educating others, but it also has serious implications for the quality of education that students receive.

One of the reasons why teaching is so underrated is the misconception that anyone can be a teacher. Many people believe that teaching is an easy job that anyone with a college degree can do. However, the reality is that teaching is a highly demanding and complex profession that requires a unique set of skills and qualities. In addition to having a deep understanding of the subjects they teach, teachers must also have the ability to communicate effectively, inspire and motivate students, and adapt their teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners.

In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of teachers and the need to support and elevate the teaching profession. Initiatives such as the National Teacher of the Year program, non-governmental organizations like Teacher’s Technological Education and Welfare Organization (TEWO), and increased funding for teacher training and professional development are steps in the right direction. However, more can and
should be done to ensure that teachers are valued and respected for the crucial work they do.
In conclusion, teaching is one of the most important professions in our society, yet it is often underrated and underappreciated. Teachers play a critical role in shaping the future of our world, and we must recognize and support their efforts. By valuing and investing in teachers, we can ensure that every child receives quality education and has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
